Solid aluminium candle holder inspired by the ancient Omphalos stone Designed for standard, 22 mm taper candles Polished finish, or raw Balances weight, fracture, and symmetry
Description
Omphalos takes its name from the ancient stone believed to mark the centre of the world; a meeting point between heaven and earth. The form draws on this symbolic axis: a grounded, monolithic presence interrupted by a precise opening that holds a candle on each side.
Machined from solid aluminium, the piece reads as both whole and altered. Its elongated body suggests stability and permanence, while the central aperture introduces a deliberate intervention. The dialogue between mass and void reflects the tension between destruction and creation, fracture and continuity.
The milled silver surface retains subtle traces of its making, allowing light to catch along its planes and edges. When lit, the candle becomes the vertical counterpoint to the horizontal body, reinforcing the idea of connection between base and flame, weight and air.
Compact yet substantial, Omphalos sits with quiet authority on a table or mantel, functioning as both utilitarian object and symbolic marker. Each piece is handmade in Amsterdam.
